Let’s go fishing!!!

Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, (Mark 3:14 NKJV)

In the depth of every human soul on earth is a search for meaning, purpose, significance and value. No matter what race, culture, language, or religion, this preoccupation with the need to find answers to our existence is inherent in every human spirit. To satisfy this yearning, we created religion. However, Religion has become one of the major problems in the world.

Religion is manipulative, controlling, and destructive. History is full with constant reminders that religion has been the source of most of our wars. Eg. The CRUSDADERS, THE INQUISITION, ETHNIC CLEANSING between Muslims and non-Muslims. Religion does not only destroy, but it instigates destruction. That’s why Jesus did not come to present a religion.  He presented a kingdom!

All religion is man’s search to find God and so we develop sophisticated rituals to feed that need and hunger. However, if you are thirsty and you eat rice, you are still thirsty.  Christianity is the only “religion” in which God came through Jesus Christ searching for man … How is Christ going to accomplish his mission? God’s method is man.

Our job is to influence and win people back to God

The bible says He called them to be with Him so He can send them out to preach, and that is one of the reasons why He called all of us. We Represent God to present Jesus Christ to the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. To do that effectively, like a good sales person we have to know our product. We have to know Jesus and what He stands for.

Remember, every unbeliever is your family.  They’re just in the pig pen, like the prodigal son – he was lost in the wrong place. No matter how sophisticated people may seem, everybody needs a savior.

Jesus Christ said we all like sheep have gone astray.  The question then is, how do we win our brothers and sisters back? Through evangelizing and witnessing. That job ladies and gentlemen is not for a selected few, it is for each one of us. I know there are some who feel they cannot be used; well I want you to know God can use you.

Allegheny ants, a common species in the eastern United States, help enrich forest areas by carrying tons of soil from below ground to the surface. A three year study by the University of Wisconsin revealed that one colony of ants moved fifteen tons of topsoil, building clusters of large mounds and burrowing five and a half feet below the surface. This deep plowing increases the nutrients, the clay, and organic matter of the surface soil in the forest. If God can use Allegheny ants to move fifteen tons of subsoil to the surface, surely God can use you to win souls.

He is desperately looking for vessels, will you avail yourself to be used to win souls? If “yes” then let’s go fishing!

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Discovering your purpose & potential

There are questions of the human heart and if we don’t answer these questions we will not live a fulfilled life. Three of these questions are:

  1. WHO AM I? – That’s a question of IDENTITY
  2. WHY AM I HERE? – That’s a question of PURPOSE
  3. WHAT CAN I DO? – That’s a question of POTENTIAL

When I was a child I was “forced” to learn this poem:
“Life in this world is a great struggle for both the young and old, and even those who have great riches have troubles of their own. Rich men envy poor men and poor men envy the rich, therefore, what is the sense in envying your neighbor. Your talent is as good as mine, try to develop it. And I am sure there is no body who has not got his own. Trouble starts when painters try to be prime ministers, when in truth they are sure they are not made for this”.
There are a lot of people in the world who make themselves miserable because they are trying to be something that they are not. They have never found the purpose for which they were born.

While it’s true that some people discover their life purpose easier than others, it’s also true that God really does have a plan for every single person, even if it takes a while to realize it. The question therefore is not whether one has a purpose or not, neither does it have anything to do with whether one has the ability or not….If you read my last couple of blogs, you will know you have both. The question then is, how do we discover that purpose and how do we discover our potential.

Let me make a few suggestions here to help you discover your purpose and potential. This list is by no means exhaustive…

If you want to know the purpose of a thing, you do not ask the thing. You ask the manufacturer. If you want to know the purpose of a television, it would be wrong to ask the television, you ask the manufacturer. So if you want to know why you exist, go to the one who made you. Go to God in prayer and He will tell you. It may sound very simplistic, but that is because it is. He said to Jeremiah “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV)
Finding your life purpose means doing something you truly love. It’s an area that just seems natural to you and things just seem to fall into place. Be willing to try something that interests you. You will know very quickly if you’ve found the right thing for you. Doors will either open or slam shut. Either way, you’ll know where you stand. If money was not an issue, what would you wish you were doing right now? When I say money is not an issue, I mean it in two way-that you are not doing it for money and the lack of it is not preventing you from doing it.
Never ask God to give you something you are unwilling to go after. You will never possess something until the pursuit of going after it overwhelms the possibility of living without it. When you take the step, God will magnify your effort and the impossible will become possible.
Champions pursue what losers wait for. The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
Persistence to an assignment increases achievability.

In conclusion, don’t let the people around you talk you into things just because it all sounds like a good idea from the world’s view doesn’t mean it’s God’s plan for you. A good idea may not be a God idea. Following God’s lead sometimes means you have to say no to many things that look good to the human eye and mind. There’s a way that seems right to man but the end thereof is death.

Go on fellow soldier, pursue your dreams and I will see you at the top.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Understanding Potential

POTENTIAL is untapped power, hidden strength, unused ability or dormant power.

Based on the above definition, Potential can primarily be seen as:

  1. Who you are, but no one knows yet
  2. What you can do but haven’t done yet and
  3. How far you can go, but haven’t gone yet

The prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:4, God determined his purpose before he was in his mother’s womb – And based on that purpose, potential was placed in him. Like Jeremiah, you were born for a purpose and were given potential to fulfill that purpose. If you die without fulfilling that purpose, you have bankrupted your generation and humanity as a whole.

God is not only a God of potential, He is potential He is OMNIPOTENT!!!
Omnipotent is made up of two words; “Omni” – all or everything, it means always ALL, “Potent” – power, ability, and strength. Omnipotent therefore means all potential. If you met God before creation, you would have shook hands with everything.  If God created everything, then everything was in Him.

Let’s reflect on these few bible characters: Moses was a man wanted for murder, but inside the murderer God hid Genesis through Deuteronomy. Rahab was a professional prostitute, but inside Rahab was the lineage of Jesus Christ. David was a shepherd boy, an adulterer and a murderer, but inside him was the greatest king of all time known as the darling boy of Israel. Paul was a serial killer, but trapped in the serial killer was 2/3 of the New Testament.
Ladies and gentlemen, it doesn’t matter what you go through, God will not discard you. Why? Because Christ didn’t just die for you; he died for what’s trapped in you.

Potential is what God hides in a person when he gives them to the world. Your disappointments or the not-so proud moments of your life do not negate the fact that there is so much potential in you that needs to be realized. That’s why you don’t look down on people because you never know what they are filled with. Abraham Lincoln, when his sweetheart died ended up in an asylum.  What people didn’t know was that inside that insane man was one of the greatest presidents of all time. That’s why you should never look down on anyone because they are full of potential.

If you’re an alcoholic, that’s just a fact… If you’re a divorcee, divorce is just an event … If you have failed, failure is temporary, you still have potential meaning there’s still greatness trapped in you.  If you have backslidden, get back up, you have potential to fulfill your assignment. Your potential is defined by your purpose. You are not a mistake; you have potential to fulfill your destiny. Go for it and I will see you at the top. ???

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and reflections on this and what you consider potential to be. Also, are you aware of your full potentials yet?

Jesus died for you, live for Him!

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Prayer & Fasting….and that’s how He blessed me….

Thanks be to God who always lead us to triumph in Christ Jesus and through us defuse the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (2 Cor. 2:14) We will like to know your experiences during this period of prayer and fasting. Briefly tell us about your experiences

Understanding Purpose

The beginning of a New Year offers hope for the future. It is a time when we renew our commitments to the basics. Our desire as children of God is to do better in the future than we have in the past. However, we will be deceiving ourselves if we think 2014 is going to be any different from 2013 if the purpose of our existence is unknown.

Each one of us is created for a reason, therefore there’s an unsettling feeling in the hearts of all humanity when the questions of our existence are not answered.
Two big questions which most of humanity have not answered are “Who am I?” and “why am I here?” Until these questions are answered, you can’t live a purposeful life.

Who am I?” is a question of identity which explains why humanity suffers from identity crisis. The world wants to make us who they want us to be, hence why we “wear other people” by taking that person’s identity and making it our own. That’s why Hollywood is always talking about who is wearing what designer clothing – sending a message that the label in our clothes determines our value and gives us identity.

“Why am I here?” is a question of purpose. No one came into life as an experiment, because God has a plan uniquely designed for each one of us. Therefore Ignorance of purpose does not negate purpose. PURPOSE is the ORIGINAL intent for the existence of a thing, the Reason for the existence of a thing and the DESIRED result in the mind of a manufacturer. In essence, purpose is the motivation behind the creation of a product including you.

Everything has a purpose, even mosquitoes. Everything has a part to play in creation.

The fact that you don’t know why you are here doesn’t dismiss the fact that there’s a reason for your being. Until you discover why you were born, your life will be an experiment. Dr. Myles Monroe once said “Death is not necessarily the saddest thing that can happen to you. The most tragic thing is to live a life without purpose.” It is even more horrifying to be alive and not know why.

The wise sage Solomon says; “a still born baby is better off than a man without purpose”. He further says “without purpose, life is meaningless, everything is meaningless”

Ladies and gentlemen, you are not to die old, you are to die because you finished your assignment. Life is not about duration; it is about donation. It is not how long you live but how well you live. Jesus died at age 33, JFK died at age 43, and MLK died at 39, yet their impacts have outlasted their generations. You were born with a destiny and with an assignment to be delivered to your generation. If you die without fulfilling that purpose, you have rendered your generation and humanity as a whole bankrupt.

In my last blog I wrote that even MAGGOTS – as insignificant as they may be- its maggots that break down matter into dirt again. If God has a purpose for maggots, and roaches, why would you think there’s no reason for your existence?
When purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable. When you abuse purpose, it self-destructs!

It’s a new year; ask your maker why you were born and what your gifts and talents are. Once you answer these questions, you will begin to enjoy life and life will begin to make sense.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Happy Holidays!?!

There is a reason for everything under the sun. Purpose is the reason or original intent for the existence of a thing. Unfortunately a lot of times we don’t know the purpose of a thing, and when purpose is not known abuse becomes inevitable.

There is a reason for every season and every holiday.  For example, July 4th holiday is to celebrate American Independence, MLK day is to celebrate the life and achievements of MLK, Thanksgiving holiday is to give thanks to God for whatever we are thankful for…etc. As a casual observer, I’ve realized that during the Christmas season some people say “happy holidays.” Interesting! So then I ask the question, is there a reason for that season and holiday? Shouldn’t it be celebrated and given its due reference like all the other holidays?

There’s a purpose for everything, hence if we do not understand the reason behind this particular holiday we will abuse and not appreciate it. Take creation for example, God had a plan uniquely designed for you; therefore the creation of everything including man had purpose and intent behind it. So then, Ignorance of purpose does not cancel purpose. Even maggots, as insignificant as they may be, are the same ones that break down matter into dirt again.

The reason for this season and holiday is Christ.  He was born for a REASON, He died for a REASON and He lives for a REASON. Jesus was born to RELATE to us, He died to REDEEM us and He lives to REPRESENT us.

So this coming holiday if you are presented the opportunity and someone wishes you “Happy Holidays” cheerfully respond “Merry Christmas” because it’s not just a holiday, there is a purpose and a reason for this season.

Whether in the diadems of happiness or in the pits of depression, wherever you find yourself this season take a moment to give thanks to God for Jesus.

This season is a festive occasion and a time of rejoicing. This is the time when we celebrate the greatest gift ever given to humanity. We have to thank God for Jesus. Please do not ignore the reason for this season. And once you realize the reason for the season, then I encourage you to respond appropriately with thanksgiving. God takes notice of a grateful heart.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Thanksgiving Day=Turkey Eating Day

THANKSGIVING! It’s a time when people come together to celebrate, and many hours are dedicated to travel and preparation for the season. Since it’s been a while we had a chance to connect, I figured what better time than now.  Oh! And if you think this blog is another can of cranberries, you sure got another thing coming so buckle up!

I have been wondering for a while on what to talk about, then a couple of days ago it dawned on me why not talk about thanksgiving from the perspective of a turkey. Though cranberries are one of the many foods traditionally linked to thanksgiving, it clearly is outshined by the turkey . But then after much thought, I abandoned the idea because I did not want to ruffle your sensitivity and intelligence. So I decided to write about the turkey from a different perspective, since that’s all it’s about anyways.

Thanksgiving Day is filled with football, eating, family time, lots of love, and of course eating turkey. When the meal is served majority of us will gather around our turkey, give compliments to the chef and some families will take a couple of minutes to share what they are thankful for in their lives. We will ask everybody to go round the table and say what they are thankful for. At this time we will caution everyone to limit it to two sentences or just a couple of seconds because we don’t want the turkey to get cold; and If God is “lucky” we will ask the “most spiritual” to say a word of prayer on our behalf. Of course I know there will be an auntie or uncle who will always go a little longer, but that is another story for another day.

As society changes and evolves, the value of materialistic things and spiritual beliefs tend to be compared equally in importance. I have concluded that thanksgiving has nothing to do with giving thanks, but has everything to do with eating turkeys (I apologize to the unfortunate turkeys for tasting so delicious).

My point? It is all about the turkey! If it’s thanksgiving, what are we thankful for and who are we giving thanks to? If we are giving thanks to God as some would want us to believe, how come we don’t hear anything about Him?

I will leave you to your thoughts and reflections on the hidden motives of your heart.

I want to hear your comments and prove me wrong if thanksgiving is not about the turkey.

By the way, I hear the grocery stores are having a turkey sale; get yours before the prices go up!

Happy turkey eating day!

If we don’t meet again, I hope to see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Why Offenses Come…

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offendedMark 4:17 (KJV).

Dear reader, nice to meet again. It’s a privilege to spend this time with you. Last time we met, we discussed the fact that offenses must and will come. In other words it is inevitable. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin, your degree or pedigree, your social standing, your educational background or the lack of it. Today, I want to continue with the issue of offenses because my heart is broken for some of you who have allowed offences to box you in and cut short your destiny.

I must admit that we serve a God that is not fully understood, a God who rarely makes clear what He is doing in the life of His children. However, He has given us a little insight into why offenses come and I want us to look at a few of the reasons today.

According to our Lord in His explanation of the “parable of the sower” we become offended due to affliction and persecution. And the reason for these two is because of the word of God.

Whatever word you have received, the enemy is coming after it and he is going to do it through offenses.

  1. The number one goal for offenses is to break your focus. Don’t allow your focus to be shifted to the offense. Sometimes it is just a false accusation that someone spreads about you and it devastates you, you get offended and you walk away from destiny.
  2. The completion of our assignment is your enemy’s greatest fear. Think about it, Satan hates finishers. It is not enough to begin. Only those who endure to the end shall be saved, promoted and rewarded. Paul wrote to his protégé Timothy and said, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Be a finisher.  Endurance is your decision.
  3. The offense is not the issue; your reaction to the offense is the issue.  Determine and decree that you are too big to take offense.
  4. Offense is just bait. There is a powerful and cunning fisherman or fisherwoman dropping bait in the pond of your life. Do not fall for it. You have come too far, fought and won too many battles, invested too much, you have come too far to turn back now.

Keep on fighting soldier, we are closer now than when we fight began. Finish and finish well.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I’ll see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Seasons Of Life II

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.Psalm 1:3 (NKJV)

Some people think they are going through the storm right now because they did something wrong. That is not so. They are just experiencing a season. God allows the stormy seasons to come and test our faith for a season. So in the seasons of “not enough”, you have to keep your faith. It is your faith that you have to live by, not your income.

It is interesting to note that God’s trees don’t bring forth fruit all of the time. They bring forth in their season. “… and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26 (NKJV). Showers of blessings are seasonal. Is your faith still in God when the showers stop? Can you say like the sage Job, “Though he slays me yet will I trust Him” or like Habakkuk “Though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet will I rejoice in the Lord”?

Every season is temporary; therefore, do not make permanent decisions in temporary situations. The Bible admonishes us that as long as the earth remains, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. So you may be in your winter or night season right now, don’t get nervous. The day is coming; your summer is coming.

From our text “He is like a tree planted by the streams of water, which yield its fruit in season…” This hh means that even those that are planted constantly by the river, that is those that are constantly in the Lord, doing the right things will go through seasons when there is no fruit. Friends, there is a season when there is no fruit. You may have crossed all your “Ts” and dotted all your “Is”, paid your tithes, be at every church service, work for the Lord and yet go through a season when there is no fruit.

The good news is that their leaves never wither. The leaves are a sign that there is life. So you are not bearing fruit, but you are grounded in your faith and walking with the Lord and you are still alive. Hear the word of the Lord, the season of harvest is coming. Keep on keeping on; the stormy season is temporary, it is just a season. It came to pass. Keep your head up, and don’t forget in the dark what He told you in the light; your fruitful season is coming.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I’ll see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.

Seasons Of Life

“Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…” (1 Chronicles 12:32)

When we look through the corridors of history we realize everything is changing. In my estimation, the only thing that is constant is God and change itself. Everything changes! Nothing is as permanent as change. Everything is in a state of change.

If we accept the inevitable truth that everything is changing and that nothing remains the same, it should minimize our disappointments. Because then, we will know that whatever negative experience we are going through, is only for a season. The good thing about seasons is that they don’t last forever.

As it has been said, a turn in the road is not the end of the road, unless you refuse to negotiate the turn. God will always change you to greater not average. God does not change us to make us miserable, but to make us better.

God realizes that we will never succeed in our future, how we are in our present; so He makes changes along the way. The sad reality about humanity is that we hate change and we resist change. Everybody hates change except a wet baby.

The key to survival is the description of the sons of Issachar in our text (1 Chronicles 12:32). They had understanding of the times. They were not ignorant of the times and the seasons. My question is, do you know the times we are in? For example, do you understand that you cannot spend money like you used to do 10 years ago? Did I hear you say “Why?” The answer is simple, the times have changed.

Understanding the times is not good enough. You have to also know what to do in every season of your life. For example you cannot live your married life like you did when you were single. Your ability to successfully navigate the different seasons in your life will be determined by your understanding of the seasons you are in, and knowing what to do in each season of your life.

I’ll leave you for now. If we don’t meet again, I’ll see you at the dinner table in Papa’s house.
